Wheels take the worst of Dubai, and a Maserati shows it
Table of Contents
ToggleA Maserati sits low, runs wide, and wears large-diameter wheels with very little tyre sidewall between the rim and the road. On a Ghibli, a Quattroporte, a Levante or a Grecale, that low-profile setup is exactly what gives the car its stance and its steering feel. It is also what makes the rims so easy to damage. There is almost nothing to absorb a mistake. A single moment of misjudgement against a kerb in a tight Business Bay car park, and the outer lip of a 20-inch wheel is gouged down to bare metal.
Dubai adds its own pressures on top of that. Multi-storey parking ramps are narrow and steeply cambered. Valet drivers are working quickly and are not always thinking about how much rim overhang a GranTurismo has. Kerbs beside villa driveways in Jumeirah, Al Barsha and Mirdif are square-edged and unforgiving. Roadworks appear overnight, and a pothole or an unmarked expansion joint on a fast stretch of Sheikh Zayed Road can put a hard flat spot into the inner barrel of a wheel without leaving a single mark you can see from outside.
Then there is the environment itself. Fine desert sand behaves like a mild abrasive, working its way under the lacquer at the edges of any existing chip. Summer heat pushes brake and road temperatures up, which accelerates the breakdown of the clear coat that protects the wheel's finish. Humidity along the coast, salt in the air near the marina and the Palm, and the chemical wash used at many car parks all attack an exposed alloy surface. Once the protective lacquer is broken, corrosion starts under the paint and spreads outward as a milky white bloom.
Most owners live with it for far longer than they need to. The reason is usually price. Ask an authorized Maserati dealership about a scuffed wheel and the answer is often a replacement, because replacing is faster for them than repairing. On a large-diameter Maserati wheel that quote can be startling, and it is rarely justified. The overwhelming majority of wheel damage we see in Dubai is entirely repairable, and the finished result is not a compromise. Done correctly, a refurbished rim looks factory-fresh and is structurally sound.
That is the work we do. Maserati Repairs Dubai is an independent specialist workshop, not an authorized dealership. Our technicians work on Maseratis every day, so they already know how a Levante's staggered fitment behaves, how a diamond cut GranTurismo face is machined, and where the factory finishes on a Quattroporte wheel differ between trims. That familiarity is what allows us to deliver a dealer-level result while charging up to 70% less than an authorized dealership.
We cover the whole of Dubai and we collect the car ourselves. Pickup and drop-off are free, whether you are in Downtown, Dubai Marina, Al Quoz, Deira, Silicon Oasis, Jumeirah or anywhere else in the emirate. You do not need to arrange a driver, sit in a waiting room, or lose half a day. Send us a few photographs on WhatsApp, we will tell you what the wheel needs, and we will come to you.
The wheel damage we repair most often
Not all wheel damage is equal. Some of it is purely cosmetic and lives in the lacquer. Some of it affects the structure of the rim and has to be assessed properly before anyone touches it. Here is what comes through our workshop, and what each type actually means for your car.
Curb rash and kerb scuffs
The most common damage by a wide margin. Contact with a kerb drags across the outer lip and face of the rim, tearing off the lacquer and paint and scoring the aluminium beneath. Light scuffing sits in the coating only. Deeper rash removes metal and leaves ridges you can feel with a fingertip. Both are repairable. The metal is filled or reprofiled, the contour of the lip is rebuilt so it matches the untouched sections, and the wheel is refinished. Left alone, exposed aluminium oxidises and the damage spreads under the surrounding lacquer.
Corrosion and lacquer peel
A distinctly regional problem. Once a chip breaks the clear coat, Dubai's humidity, coastal salt and heat get underneath it. You will see a chalky white or grey bloom creeping out from the chip, and the lacquer begins to lift and flake in patches. Polishing over it achieves nothing, because the corrosion is beneath the coating. The only durable fix is stripping the affected area back to clean, sound metal, neutralising the oxidation, and rebuilding the finish from primer upward.
Bent rims and flat spots
Usually caused by a pothole, an unmarked expansion joint, or a heavy hit at speed. Symptoms are a steady vibration through the steering wheel or seat at highway speed, and often a slow puncture that no one can trace, because the bead is no longer sealing against a true rim edge. Many bends are on the inner barrel where they are invisible unless the wheel is off the car and on a lathe. Bends within safe limits can be straightened. We will tell you honestly if one cannot.
Cracked wheels
The most serious category, and the one we are most conservative about. Cracks usually start at the inner barrel or where a spoke meets the rim, and they grow under load. A crack is not always visible until the tyre is removed and the wheel is cleaned. Some cracks in low-stress areas can be professionally welded and re-machined. Cracks that run through a spoke, cross a mounting face, or sit in a high-load structural zone are not safely repairable, and we will say so rather than take the job.
Faded and pitted diamond cut faces
Diamond cut wheels have a machined metal face sealed under a specific lacquer. When that seal fails, moisture gets between the lacquer and the bright metal and produces a cloudy, spotted appearance that looks like the wheel is rotting from within. It cannot be polished out. The face has to be stripped, re-machined on a CNC wheel lathe to restore the fine cut lines, and re-lacquered. We do this in-house and match the original cut pattern.
Mismatched and previously repaired wheels
We see a lot of wheels that were repaired quickly and cheaply somewhere else. The tell-tale signs are a slightly different shade of silver on one rim, a lip that has been filled but not reprofiled so the curve is subtly wrong, orange-peel texture in the lacquer, or overspray on the tyre. We strip poor previous work back and redo it properly, and we colour-match across the full set so all four wheels read as one matching set rather than three originals and a repair.
How we refurbish a Maserati wheel
Wheel refurbishment done properly is a sequence, and skipping a stage is what produces the results you see peeling six months later. This is the full process every wheel goes through in our Dubai workshop.
Inspection off the car
The wheel comes off, the tyre is removed, and the rim is cleaned inside and out. Only then can the inner barrel, the bead seat and the mounting face be assessed. A great deal of damage is invisible while the wheel is still on the vehicle. We check for cracks, measure runout, and identify any previous repair work before quoting.
Straightening
Bends and flat spots are corrected on a hydraulic wheel straightening machine, with controlled heat applied where the alloy requires it. The wheel is worked gradually and re-measured throughout, because forcing aluminium too fast introduces stress. We straighten only within safe tolerance. If a rim is beyond that, we say so.
Welding, where it is safe
Approved cracks and heavily gouged sections are TIG welded with a compatible aluminium filler, then ground back and re-machined to the original profile. We weld only in non-structural, low-stress areas. Any crack through a spoke, across the hub face or in a high-load zone is refused, because no cosmetic outcome is worth that risk.
Stripping and preparation
Old paint, lacquer and corrosion are removed so work begins on clean, sound metal. Damaged sections are filled where appropriate and the lip contour is reprofiled to match the undamaged circumference. This preparation stage is the single biggest difference between a repair that lasts and one that fails.
Priming and refinishing
The wheel is primed, then colour is applied in controlled coats to the specified finish. For painted wheels we colour-match to the original factory shade, checking against the untouched wheels on your car so the repaired rim does not sit half a tone away from the rest of the set.
Diamond cutting
Where the wheel is a diamond cut design, the face is machined on a CNC wheel lathe to reinstate the fine concentric cut lines, matching the original pattern and pitch. This is a precision operation and the reason so many workshops simply paint over a diamond cut face instead of restoring it.
Lacquer and curing
A high-quality clear coat seals the finish, then the wheel is oven cured. The lacquer is what stands between the metal and Dubai's heat, humidity, salt and sand, so this layer matters more here than in most climates. A properly cured coat is what stops the corrosion cycle starting again.
Refitting and balancing
The tyre is remounted, the wheel is dynamically balanced, and TPMS sensors are checked and reset where fitted. Wheel bolts are torqued to specification. We inspect the tyre itself at this point, because a hit hard enough to bend a rim often damages the sidewall too.
Final check and delivery
The finished set is inspected under strong light for colour match, texture and coverage, and the car is road tested for vibration. Then we drive it back to you, anywhere in Dubai, at no charge. You see the finished result at your home or office.

Most owners want the wheel returned exactly as Maserati made it, and that is our default. But since the wheel is already stripped, this is also the natural moment to change the look of the car if you want to.
Factory-matched refinishing
We match the original Maserati finish for your model and trim: silver, gunmetal, anthracite, matte or gloss black, bright machined faces, and the two-tone combinations used across the Ghibli, Quattroporte, Levante, Grecale, GranTurismo and MC20 ranges. Matching is done against your own untouched wheels rather than a code alone, because a wheel that has spent three summers in Dubai sun will not read identically to a fresh reference sample.
Diamond cut restoration
The machined bright face is re-cut on a lathe to reinstate the original concentric line pattern, with the pockets or spoke recesses finished in the correct contrasting colour. This is the finish that most workshops avoid, and it is also the one that most visibly transforms a tired-looking Maserati. Note that a diamond cut face can only be re-machined a limited number of times, since each cut removes a small amount of material.
Powder coating
An electrostatically applied, oven-cured finish that is thicker and more chip-resistant than conventional paint. It is an excellent choice for a Levante or Grecale that sees rougher use, for winter-hardy durability against sand abrasion, and for solid colours such as satin black, graphite or bronze. Powder coating is not suitable for restoring a diamond cut face, since it covers the machined metal rather than exposing it.
Colour changes and full set refinishing
Going from silver to satin black, or from black to bronze or gunmetal, is a straightforward and surprisingly affordable way to change how the whole car reads. We recommend doing all four wheels together for a colour change so the set is perfectly consistent. If you are only repairing one damaged rim, we will still check the finish against the other three so the repair disappears into the set.
Safety checks after every wheel repair
A wheel is a structural component carrying the full weight of the car at speed. Cosmetics are the easy part. What happens after the finish is applied is what determines whether the repair is actually safe.
Runout measurement
Lateral and radial runout are measured after straightening to confirm the rim runs true within tolerance. A wheel that looks straight can still be out enough to produce vibration at 120 km/h.
Crack inspection
The bare rim is inspected inside and out with the tyre off, including the barrel and hub face. Anything that raises doubt is flagged before work continues, not after the wheel is painted.
Dynamic balancing
Every refitted wheel is dynamically balanced. Refinishing changes the mass distribution slightly, so re-balancing is not optional if you want a vibration-free car at highway speed.
Bead seal and pressure
The tyre bead area is checked and sealed correctly, and pressures are set to your model's specification. A poor bead seat is the usual cause of an unexplained slow puncture after a cheap repair.
TPMS check
Tyre pressure sensors are inspected, refitted and reset where your Maserati is equipped with them, so no warning light is left illuminated on the dash when the car comes back.
Torque to specification
Wheel bolts are tightened with a calibrated torque wrench to the manufacturer's figure. Over-tightening warps brake discs; under-tightening is dangerous. Neither is acceptable.
Tyre condition review
An impact strong enough to bend a rim frequently damages the tyre as well. We check for sidewall bulges, internal separation and bead damage and tell you what we find.
Road test
The car is driven after the wheels are refitted to confirm there is no vibration, pull or noise. If something is not right, it goes back on the lift before it goes back to you.

Maserati experience, every day
Our technicians are Maserati specialists. They are not general alloy wheel repairers who occasionally see an Italian car. They know the wheel designs, the finishes, the fitments and the quirks across the range, from a 3200 GT through to a Grecale, and that knowledge shows in the result. We service every Maserati model except the fully electric Folgore variants.
Honest, direct advice
We tell you when a wheel can be saved and we tell you when it cannot. We do not work with insurance companies, which means no adjuster is deciding what your car gets and no third party is influencing the recommendation. You deal with us, we deal with you, and the advice you get is based on the wheel in front of us.
Parts options: genuine, aftermarket and used
Sometimes a wheel is beyond safe repair, or you simply want a replacement rather than a refurbishment. We source parts across three tiers and let you decide, rather than deciding for you.
Genuine OEM
Original Maserati parts, identical to what the car left the factory with. This is the right choice when you want an exact match to the rest of the set, when the car is being kept long term, or when originality matters for resale. It is the most expensive route, and we will tell you plainly when the extra cost is worth paying and when it is not.
Premium aftermarket
Quality aftermarket wheels and components from established manufacturers, meeting the correct specification, fitment and load rating for your model. Significantly more affordable than genuine, and for many owners the sensible middle path. We only source aftermarket parts we would be comfortable fitting to our own cars.
Inspected used
Genuine Maserati wheels sourced second-hand, fully inspected for cracks, runout and prior repair before we offer them to you. This is often the most cost-effective way to replace a single unrepairable rim while keeping an exact factory match, and it is a route dealerships will not offer at all.
Whichever tier you choose, the wheel is checked, refinished if needed, fitted, balanced and torqued to specification before the car is returned to you. Tell us your budget and what the car means to you, and we will recommend accordingly.
How it works, from first message to finished wheels
The whole process is built so you never have to drive across the city or sit waiting. Free pickup and drop-off is included on every job, across all of Dubai.
Send photos
WhatsApp us clear pictures of the damaged wheel, ideally straight on and at an angle so we can see the lip. Tell us your Maserati model and year. Or just call and describe it.

If your Maserati is not listed above, call us anyway. The list covers our most common work, not the limit of what we take on.
Wheels are only part of what we do
Kerb damage rarely arrives alone. If the impact that marked your wheel also scuffed the bumper, upset the alignment or knocked something out of true underneath, we can deal with all of it in the same visit rather than sending you elsewhere.
Full mechanical repair
Engine and transmission work, suspension and steering, brakes, cooling systems, electrical diagnostics and scheduled servicing across the Maserati range. The same independent pricing and the same free pickup and drop-off apply. If a pothole that bent your rim also damaged a control arm or knocked out the alignment, we find it and fix it.
Denting, painting and polishing
Dent removal, panel repair, colour-matched respraying and machine polishing to bring back depth and gloss. Dubai sun is hard on paint, and a car with beautifully restored wheels and a dull, swirled finish still looks tired. We restore the whole car so the result is consistent.
Accident repair
Structural and cosmetic repair after a collision, from bumper and panel work through to suspension and underbody damage. As with everything we do, we do not work with insurance companies — this is direct, private accident repair, which keeps the process simple, quick and entirely under your control.
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to what Maserati owners in Dubai ask us most about alloy wheel repair.
Can curbed or scuffed Maserati rims be fully restored?
Yes. Curb rash is the most common damage we see and, in the vast majority of cases, the wheel can be restored so the repair is undetectable. The scuffed area is stripped, the damaged aluminium is filled or reprofiled so the lip contour matches the untouched sections, and the wheel is primed, refinished in the correct factory colour or diamond cut pattern, then lacquered and oven cured. We colour-match against your other wheels rather than a code alone, so the repaired rim blends into the set. Very deep gouging that has removed significant structural metal is assessed individually, and we will tell you honestly if it is not safely repairable.
How much does alloy wheel repair cost in Dubai compared to the authorized dealership?
Our alloy wheel work typically costs up to 70% less than an authorized Maserati dealership for the same standard of finish. A large part of that gap exists because dealerships frequently recommend replacing a damaged wheel rather than repairing it, and a genuine large-diameter Maserati rim is expensive. We repair wherever it is safe to do so. The final price depends on the extent of the damage, whether straightening or welding is needed, the finish type, and how many wheels are involved. Send us photographs on WhatsApp and we will give you a clear figure before any work starts, with no obligation.
How long does alloy wheel repair take at your workshop?
Most cosmetic refurbishment work is completed within a few days, because the process includes stripping, refinishing and proper oven curing, and curing cannot be rushed without compromising durability. A single scuffed wheel is usually faster than a full set. Jobs that involve straightening, welding or diamond cut re-machining take longer, and a full set colour change longer still. We give you a realistic timeframe when we quote, and we tell you immediately if anything discovered once the tyre is off is going to change it. Free pickup and drop-off is scheduled around your availability at both ends.
Which Maserati models do you offer alloy wheel repair for?
All of them, with one exception. We repair and refinish wheels for the Ghibli, Quattroporte, Levante, Grecale, GranTurismo, GranCabrio, MC20, GranSport, the older Coupé and Spyder, and the 3200 GT, across all wheel sizes and staggered fitments. The exception is the fully electric Folgore variants, which we do not service. Our technicians work on Maseratis daily, so they are familiar with the specific wheel designs, finishes and fitments used across the range rather than treating every rim as generic. If your Maserati is not in that list, call us and we will confirm.
Do you use genuine, aftermarket or used parts for alloy wheel repair?
All three, and the choice is yours. Refurbishment restores your existing wheel, so no parts are needed at all in most cases. When a wheel cannot be saved or you want a replacement, we source genuine Maserati OEM wheels for an exact factory match, quality aftermarket wheels from established manufacturers at the correct specification and load rating, or inspected genuine used wheels as the most cost-effective way to match an existing set. Every used wheel is checked for cracks, runout and previous repair before we offer it. We explain the difference in cost and outcome and let you decide.
Can a bent or cracked Maserati rim be safely repaired?
Bends can usually be corrected. The wheel is straightened on a hydraulic machine with controlled heat where needed, then re-measured for lateral and radial runout to confirm it runs true within tolerance. Cracks are handled far more cautiously. A crack in a low-stress, non-structural area can sometimes be TIG welded and re-machined. A crack that runs through a spoke, crosses the mounting face, or sits in a high-load structural zone is not safely repairable, and we will refuse it and recommend replacement instead. We would rather lose the job than return a wheel we would not fit to our own car.
Do you refinish diamond cut Maserati wheels?
Yes, and we restore them properly rather than painting over the machined face. Diamond cut wheels have a bright metal surface sealed under lacquer. When that seal fails, moisture gets underneath and produces the cloudy, spotted look many owners mistake for permanent damage. We strip the face, re-machine it on a CNC wheel lathe to reinstate the original concentric cut lines and pitch, finish the recesses in the correct contrasting colour, then re-lacquer and cure. One point worth knowing: each re-cut removes a small amount of material, so a diamond cut face can only be machined a limited number of times.
Are you an authorized Maserati dealership?
No. Maserati Repairs Dubai is an independent specialist workshop, and we are clear about that from the outset. We are the dealer alternative: our technicians work on Maseratis every day and deliver dealer-level workmanship, but without dealership overheads, which is how we charge up to 70% less. Being independent also means we can repair rather than replace where it is safe, source parts across genuine, aftermarket and used tiers instead of genuine only, and give you direct contact with the people actually working on your car rather than communication through a service advisor.
Do you offer free pickup and drop-off anywhere in Dubai?
Yes, free pickup and drop-off is included on every job and covers the whole of Dubai. Downtown, Business Bay, Dubai Marina, JLT, Jumeirah, Al Barsha, Deira, Bur Dubai, Al Quoz, Silicon Oasis, Mirdif, International City, Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills, Palm Jumeirah and everywhere in between. We collect the car from your home, office or building parking at a time that suits you, and we return it the same way once the work is finished and road tested. There is no charge for this, no minimum spend, and no need to arrange your own driver.
Do you work with insurance companies?
No. We do not work with insurance companies on any job, including alloy wheel repair. All of our work is direct with the vehicle owner. In practice, most owners find this simpler and faster: there is no adjuster deciding what your car is allowed to receive, no approval delays holding up the workshop, and no third party influencing which parts are used or whether a wheel is repaired or replaced. You get a clear price upfront, you approve the work, and the recommendation you receive is based purely on the condition of the wheel in front of us.
